Know Your Rights
Attention all motorists! As the owner of a motor vehicle you have the right to choose the shop where you wish to have your vehicle repaired.
For various reasons some insurance companies arrange special discounts on parts and labour with certain repair facilities. In no way are you obligated to have your vehicle repaired at these discount repair shops - the choice is always up to you!
Generally after an accident your insurance company will indicate that you should take your car to a "preferred autobody shop" to get the repairs done. Often they will emphasize that they cannot guarantee the work done at a shop that is not on their preferred list. You should be aware that you have the right to take your car to any autobody shop of your choice, and also that all autobody shops guarantee their own work. Regardless of what your insurance company tells you, the choice is ultimately yours.
Rental car companies also follow this practice, and will sometimes tell customers that they cannot provide them with a temporary rental car unless the customer's car is being repaired in the preferred shop. Again, not true. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! For more information, please contact us.
